  • Commonly performed as part of a routine health examination, when being monitored for a specific condition, or to monitor the impact of medications that may affect the kidney.
  • Includes the following 8 tests: glucose, calcium, sodium, potassium, carbon dioxide, chloride, blood urea nitrogen, and creatinine.
  • A simple blood sample drawn from a vein in the arm 9 – 12 hours after fasting without liquids or food.

Blood Type (ABO and Rh) Test

  • Blood typing determines a person’s blood group (A, B, AB, or O) and whether someone is Rh-positive or Rh-negative.
  • Performed prior to receiving a blood transfusion and when donating blood, an organ, tissue, or bone marrow in order to ensure compatibility; and during pregnancy to determine a mother’s risk of Rh incompatibility with the fetus.
  • Simple blood sample drawn from a vein in the arm; no fasting necessary

Cholesterol/Lipid Profile

  • Used to determine if you have abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels, which may help you and your doctor determine if you are at risk of heart disease.
  • A lipid profile measures 1) total cholesterol, 2) HDL or “good” cholesterol, 3) LDL or “bad” cholesterol, and 4) triglycerides.
  • Commonly used to establish baseline cholesterol levels and periodically monitor to ensure heart health.
  • Simple blood sample drawn from a vein in the arm 9 – 12 hours after fasting without liquids or food.

Complete Blood Count (CBC)

  • Provides a snapshot of your health by giving important information about the cells in your body – useful in diagnosing a variety of conditions such as Anemia, Leukemia, bleeding disorders, and infections.
  • Commonly part of a routine health examination, and also recommended when symptoms such as fatigue, difficulty recovering from an infection, or excessive bleeding are present, as they may be indicative of a condition affecting blood cells.
  • The Complete Blood Count (CBC) measures 1) white blood cell count and differential, 2) red blood cell count and density, 3) hemoglobin levels, and 4) blood platelet count.
  • Simple blood sample drawn from a vein in the arm; no fasting necessary

Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP)

  • Provides a snapshot of your overall health and organ functioning by measuring sugar (glucose) levels, electrolyte and fluid balance, kidney function, and liver function.
  • Made up of the 8 tests included in the Basic Metabolic Panel (BMP) in addition to 4 liver tests (ALP, ALT, AST, and bilirubin) and 2 protein tests (albumin and total protein).
  • Commonly performed as part of a routine health examination, when being monitored for a specific condition, or to monitor the impact of medications that may affect the kidney or liver.
  • Simple blood sample drawn from a vein in the arm 9 – 12 hours after fasting without liquids or food.

Electrolyte Panel

  • Electrolytes are minerals that keep your body’s fluids in balance and keep your body functioning normally.
  • Measures the blood levels of carbon dioxide, chloride, potassium, and sodium; and is used to identify an electrolyte or acid-base imbalance, or to monitor the treatment of a known imbalance that is currently affecting organ function.
  • Often performed as part of a routine screening, to aid in the diagnosis or monitor medical conditions such as hypertension, heart disorders, and liver or kidney failure.
  • Simple blood sample drawn from a vein in the arm; no fasting necessary

Renal (Kidney) Function Panel

  • Used to evaluate the overall functioning of your kidneys, help detect conditions affecting the kidneys, or monitor the progression of kidney disease.
  • Recommended as part of an annual physical, and for people with diabetes, alcoholism, or frequent urinary tract infections.
  • Simple blood sample drawn from a vein in the arm; no fasting necessary

Urinalysis (UA)

  • Commonly used to determine if kidneys are functioning correctly or if a urinary tract infection (UTIs) is present. Detects substances or cellular material such as protein or glucose in the urine often associated with metabolic and kidney disorders.
  • Should be considered when experiencing back or abdominal pain, painful or frequent urination, or blood in the urine. Often recommended before surgery or in early pregnancy.

Vitamin B12 & Folate Deficiency Test

  • Used to assist in diagnosing anemia, neuropathy, and malabsorption syndromes; and to monitor the treatment of a vitamin B12 or folate deficiency
  • Commonly performed when a Complete Blood Count (CBC) test indicates the presence of larger than normal red blood cells; or when someone displays symptoms of anemia (weak, tired, pale) or neuropathy (eye twitching, loss of memory, altered mental state).
  • Simple blood sample drawn from a vein in the arm.
